Ionis, AstraZeneca Rare Disease Drug Wins FDA Approval

Ionis Pharmaceuticals and AstraZeneca’s Wainua (eplontersen) has received FDA approval, according to a post on the US agency’s website for approved drugs. Shares of IONS are up 3.4% in light postmarket trading.

  • The prescription label wasn’t immediately available
  • The companies had sought approval for the drug as a treatment for people with hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloid polyneuropathy (ATTRv-PN)
  • A decision by the Food and Drug Administration had been expected by Dec. 22
