Injury Lawsuits Tying Lipitor To Diabetes Sent to South Carolina

Personal injury suits by plaintiffs alleging they developed type 2 diabetes from the cholesterol drug Lipitor will go forward in consolidated proceedings before Judge Richard M. Gergel of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation ordered Feb. 18 (In re Lipitor (Atorvastatin Calcium) Mktg., Sales Practices & Prods. Liab. Litig. (No. II), J.P.M.L., MDL No. 2502, 2/18/14).

The panel consolidated 56 suits. Plaintiffs alleged New York-based Pfizer Inc. failed to warn physicians and consumers about the drug’s diabetes risk, the order said.
