Fifteen drugmakers will pay Illinois $248 million to settle the state’s claims that they manipulated wholesale prices to increase their Medicaid reimbursements.

Taking Advantage: The companies were accused of fraudulently publishing inflated average wholesale price information, which state Medicaid programs use to set reimbursement levels.

Closing the Book: The settlement resolves litigation filed in 2005 against more than four dozen companies, from which the state has now recovered a total of $678 million. Christopher Brown has the story.
