Humana Amends ‘Star Ratings’ Suit After UnitedHealth Group’s Win

Private Medicare Advantage insurer Humana Inc. amended its allegations in its federal challenge to Medicare “star ratings,” incorporating elements of a similar successful lawsuit brought by UnitedHealth Group Inc.

The insurers sued the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services recently to contest their 2025 “star ratings,” which determine how much they’ll receive in 2026 from the Medicare Advantage Quality Bonus Payment program. This year, Medicare managed care plans are expected to receive $15 billion from the program, according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.
