Flu Fight Needs $11 Billion to Modernize Vaccines, HHS Says (1)

Fighting the flu will cost as much as $11 billion over the next decade as the Trump administration jump-starts quicker ways to develop vaccines to ward off pandemics.

The administration plans to ask Congress for between $10 billion and $11 billion to implement a recent executive order on modernizing the U.S. response to influenza viruses.

“If you look at a 10-year program, that would be about the range,” Robert Kadlec, assistant secretary for preparedness and response in the Department of Health & Human Services, said Oct. 15 following remarks at a medical countermeasures industry conference.
