Florida Hospital Sues HHS Over Medicare Safety Net Payments

A Florida safety net hospital sued the US health-care agency for allegedly miscalculating its Medicare reimbursement for treating low-income patients.

The lawsuit filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida claims the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services inaccurately calculated a Medicare supplemental reimbursement formula used to pay Sebring, Florida-based Highlands Regional Medical Center for taking on a disproportionate share of poor and uninsured patients.
