Trasylol manufacturer Bayer Corp. prevailed in a wrongful death case March 14, as the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida deemed the plaintiff’s expert causation witness unreliable because of flaws in his methodology, and granted summary judgment to Bayer (Trasylol Products Liability Litigation, In re, S.D. Fla., 1:08-md-01928-DMM, 3/14/13).
Decedent Vernesta Huff received Trasylol to prevent bleeding during mitral valve replacement surgery in 2006. Charlotte Harper, representing Huff’s estate, alleged the drug caused Huff’s kidney failure, heart failure, and death. The lawsuit became part of federal multidistrict proceedings in the Southern District of Florida. ...
