FDA Warns of Potential Contamination In Certain Intravenous Medication Bags

The Food and Drug Administration May 29 said it is alerting health care professionals not to use certain intravenous bags of metronidazole, ondansetron, and ciprofloxacin because of potential contamination.

The agency said it has received reports of floating matter in IV bags manufactured by Claris Lifesciences Ltd., in Ahmedabad, India. Foreign matter should not be present in a sterile injectable product, FDA said.

Potentially affected products are sold under the Claris, Sagent Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, and West-Ward Pharmaceuticals labels, the agency said.
