The Food and Drug Administration June 29 announced that it has approved the first generic version of Effexor XR (venlafaxine hydrochloride extended-release capsules) to treat major depressive disorder.
FDA said it approved generic versions of the drug in 37.5 mg, 75 mg, and 150 mg strengths. The generic drug will be manufactured by Jerusalem-based Teva Pharmaceuticals.
