The FDA has a new deputy commissioner for medical products and tobacco.
Rachel Sherman was promoted to deputy commissioner, the Food and Drug Administration said in a Sept. 22 announcement. Previously, Sherman served as the associate deputy commissioner for medical products and tobacco.
In her new role, Sherman will provide “leadership, management and policy direction in planning and implementing major cross cutting medical product policy and programmatic initiatives that are clinical, scientific or regulatory in nature,” the agency said.
