Ex-NYU Psychiatrist Settles HHS Research Misconduct Claims

A former New York University psychiatrist who was sentenced to playing piano after stealing research dollars for personal trips and goods has agreed to settle claims he fabricated research data.

The agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Research Integrity marks the latest federal action against Alexander Neumeister, a former researcher who studied neurological disorders at NYU’s medical school.

Federal prosecutors accused Neumeister more than two years ago of stealing tens of thousands of dollars of research money and falsely saying the expenses were related to research projects or other university work, according to the 2017 ...
