Drugmakers’ YouTube Videos Promote Unapproved Uses: FDA

Zydus Discovery DMCC and Chiasma Inc. must stop promoting investigational drugs through videos posted on the YouTube.com website, the FDA said recently.

Both companies have posted promotional YouTube videos for products that haven’t yet been approved, the Food and Drug Administration said in separate “untitled” letters dated Dec. 21, 2016. The agency posted the letters online Jan. 3.

Zydus’ video features Lipaglyn (saroglitazar tablets), a potential diabetes treatment. Chiasma’s video features Mycapssa (octreotide capsules), a potential treatment for the hormonal disorder acromegaly. The FDA said the videos suggest these unapproved drugs are ...
