President Donald Trump‘s plan to cancel funding for gun violence research in his final days in office drew the ire of congressional Democrats as cities across the U.S. see record homicides.

The White House would revoke $25 million in firearm research funds split between the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of a $27.4 billion rescission package released Thursday.
