President Donald Trump‘s plan to cancel funding for gun violence research in his final days in office drew the ire of congressional Democrats as cities across the U.S. see record homicides.

The White House would revoke $25 million in firearm research funds split between the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as part of a $27.4 billion rescission package released Thursday. That funding had marked a win for Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), who led the charge in 2018 to restore it for the first time since the mid-1990s.
