CVS to Pay $1.5M to Settle Probe of Opioid Reporting Lapses

CVS Pharmacy Inc. agreed to pay $1.5 million to settle a U.S. investigation into allegations that some of its pharmacies in the Long Island suburbs of New York had violated rules requiring timely reporting of the loss or theft of opioid painkillers and other controlled substances.

The civil settlement, announced June 28, was separate from a criminal enforcement sweep the same day that accused hundreds of defendants of health-care fraud, including 162 medical professionals charged for their alleged roles in fraudulently prescribing and distributing opioids.
