Berkeley Lights Sued by AbCellera on Antibody Test Patents

AbCellera Biologics, which is testing antibodies against Covid-19, claims rival Berkeley Lights is using its patented inventions without permission, according to a complaint filed Thursday in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware.

  • The eight patents in the case relate to ways to analyze cells to identify antibodies that can be used to prevent and treat diseases
  • AbCellera said its technology was used to discover the first antibody against Covid-19
    • Eli Lilly is working with closely held AbCellera in the development of so-called “neutralizing” antibodies that are tailored to mimic immune responses to the virus
