Actavis Changes Global Name to Allergan; U.S., Canadian Generic Units Remain Actavis

Actavis plc has changed its name to Allergan plc, following its acquisition of drugmaker Allergan, the company announced June 15.

The company said its shareholders approved the name change June 5.

The name change comes after the Irish drugmaker’s March acquisition of Irvine, Calif.-based Allergan, which makes eye, skin-care and cosmetic-enhancement products, including the wrinkle filler Botox Cosmetic (botulinum toxin) in a deal reported to be worth approximately $66 billion.

The company will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the new symbol, AGN.
