Abbvie Loses Coherus Challenge to One of Its Humira Patents

AbbVie Inc. lost a challenge filed by Coherus BioSciences Inc. over one of its patents for the blockbuster arthritis drug Humira, which accounts for almost two-thirds of AbbVie revenue.

The patent was deemed invalid by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in Alexandria, Virginia. Coherus had argued that it didn’t cover anything new. The board is looking at two other patents, with final decisions due by June 13.

Humira is used to treat inflammatory disorders including rheumatoid arthritis as well as a variety of gastrointestinal and skin conditions. The patent is among dozens that AbbVie contends will protect the drug ...
