Abbott, Abbvie Settle Whistleblower Tricor Allegations for $25M

Abbott Laboratories and AbbVie will pay $25 million to resolve allegations of kickbacks and unlawful marketing and promotion methods to induce TriCor prescriptions.

The federal government will receive $23.2 million of settlement and state Medicaid programs will receive $1.8 million, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The settlement resolves allegations that between 2006 and 2008, the companies knowingly paid kickbacks to physicians to get them to prescribe TriCor to patients. Kickbacks allegedly included improper gift baskets and gift cards delivered through sales representatives.
