Uber-Backed Group Spends Millions to Back Hochul Insurance Pitch

An Uber-backed group is shelling out $8 million to back New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposal to cap the amount insurance companies are liable for accidents.

The coalition Citizens for Affordable Rates is propping up Hochul’s pitch to curb auto insurance fraud she contends is driving up the cost of premiums for New York drivers. Premiums have risen to about $4,000 for the average New York household, according to Hochul (D).
