In park-poor Queens, New York, residents starving for outdoor recreation were banking on an abandoned rail line to help fill the gap. The long-in-the-works QueensWay was going to transform 3.5 miles of old Long Island Rail Road tracks into a High-Line-like linear park serving the more than a quarter-million New Yorkers who lived within a mile of it.
