Elise Stefanik announced her gubernatorial bid today, pitting her against incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul in a state that hasn’t elected a Republican to the position since 2002.
The Albany native had been considering a run for months, and formally announced just days after Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City’s mayor’s race. “I am running for governor to bring a new generation of leadership to Albany to make New York affordable and safe for families all across our great state,” she said in a statement that was heavy on criticism of Hochul, calling her the “worst governor in America.” ...
