Redrawing of NYC’s Sole GOP House Seat Must Proceed, Court Says

Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis failed to convince a New York appeals court to stop her seat from being redrawn, with the appellate judges unanimously giving a green light for the redistricting process to continue.

The ruling on Thursday from the New York Appellate Division, First Department denied Malliotakis’ request to pause a lower court order finding her seat unconstitutional.

The appeals court instead compelled New York’s Independent Redistricting Commission to get to work on redrawing the district lines, in a win for Democrats seeking to reshape the city’s only GOP-held district ahead of the midterms. It’s unclear how the lines ...
