Real Estate Powerhouses Square Off in Court: New York Brief

The battle between real-estate heavyweights Compass and Zillow kicked off in Manhattan federal court yesterday, with the potential to reshape how homes are marketed and sold.

The fight is the latest over who controls the most valuable asset in real estate: information. Compass built a private network allowing sellers to list homes with its agents before posting on public sites. Zillow relies on multiple listing data to power its popular site and moved to ban Compass’s listings. Compass sued, saying the practice is anticompetitive.
