NY Plastic Reduction Bill Spurs Costly Debate as Democrats Split

Companies including Kraft Heinz Co., Coca-Cola Co. and L’Oreal USA have lined up to lobby on New York legislation that would place the nation’s strongest restrictions on plastic packaging, according to the state ethics commission.

Business groups have circulated opposition memos this week warning of increased consumer costs should lawmakers pass the bill. The measure would require manufacturers to reduce their single-use plastic packaging by 30% over 12 years. Dozens of companies have also lobbied on their own.
