Democrats could get a boost in their efforts to retake the US House next year after New York lawmakers on Wednesday approved a new congressional district map that Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) swiftly signed into law.

Approval by the governor might not be the final word on a new congressional map after Democrats earlier this week rejected a plan from a bipartisan commission. Republicans are considering a court challenge to argue Democrats gave themselves partisan advantage in violation of the state Constitution.
