Zohran Mamdani said he’d keep NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch on the job if elected mayor, remarks likely to bring relief to moderates who have critiqued the candidate’s stances on policing.
During the second and final mayoral debate last night, the front-runner confirmed emerging reports that he’d ask Tisch to continue leading the nation’s largest police force.
“Commissioner Tisch took on a broken status quo, started to deliver accountability, rooting out corruption, and reducing crime,” Mamdani said.
Of course, the decision is up to her. A Tisch spokeswoman didn’t comment.
