LaGuardia Sinkhole Delays Flights as Runway Closed at Hub (1)

New York’s LaGuardia Airport told travelers to expect delays after it was forced to shut down a runway on Wednesday due to a nearby sinkhole.

The airport in a post to social media platform X said the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey found the hole around 11 a.m. local time while conducting its daily morning inspection.

“Travelers should expect delays and cancellations, particularly with forecast thunderstorms expected later today, and are strongly encouraged to check directly with their airlines for the latest flight status information,” the airport said.
