Hochul’s deputy to challenge her in primary

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul faces a primary challenge from Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado to be the Democratic nominee in 2026.

Delgado, whom Hochul appointed to statewide office three years ago, announced his campaign on Monday with a social media video highlighting his background as an attorney, hip-hop artist, and native son of Schenectady. He also served in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022.

“What we need right here in New York is bold, decisive, transformational leadership,” he said in the video, which cited housing, health care, child care, and universal pre-K as topics of concern. ...
