BNP Paribas Says It’s Appealing $21 Million Sudan Verdict

BNP Paribas SA told a US judge that it’s appealing a nearly $21 million verdict against the bank for funding a regime in Sudan that committed widespread human rights abuses.

The notice of appeal filed Friday was expected. US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein ruled last month that he would delay thousands of additional claims by victims of the Sudanese regime in anticipation of a challenge to the verdict. The appeals process could take months, possibly more than a year.
