Adams sued by ex-NYPD officials

As Mayor Eric Adams runs for re-election, he’s contending with litigation criticizing his oversight of the NYPD.

Matthew Pontillo, a 37-year New York Police Department veteran, claimed in a July 7 lawsuit that city officials retaliated against him after he disclosed internal findings about the NYPD’s Community Response Team, my colleagues Myles Miller and Laura Nahmias reported.

NYPD officers in that unit engaged in unconstitutional stops, delayed activating their body cameras, and improperly documented their work, according to Pontillo’s suit. The issues were ignored or rewarded with promotions, according to the complaint.
