Tech Giants Worry Commerce Going Too Far to Block China Exports

Don’t rush to lump all emerging technologies in one basket.

That’s the message technology lobbying groups representing companies like Apple Inc., IBM Inc. and Microsoft Corp., are sending the Trump administration, concerned that a new “export control” law could limit the industry’s sales and licensing deals abroad.

The law—the Export Control Reform Act, passed in August—aims to curb national security threats and espionage by limiting exports of some emerging technologies to China and other countries.
