Casino ATM Maker Accused of Monopolization, Sham Patent Filings

Slot machine maker Everi Holdings Inc. has been hit with an antitrust lawsuit accusing it of using sham patent filings and baseless litigation to monopolize the market for casino ATMs.

Everi fraudulently sought patent protection for cash-dispensing kiosks that weren’t worthy of it, then enforced those patents against competitors through a series of “objectively baseless” lawsuits, rival machine maker NRT Technology Corp. claimed April 30 in Delaware Chancery Court.

The “predatory and anti-competitive” scheme allowed Everi to dominate the casino ATM industry from mid-2015 to early 2018, and the market is only just beginning to recover, the suit said.
