Trinseo to Buy Arkema’s Plexiglas Business for $1.38 Billion

Trinseo SA, the plastics maker carved out from Dow Chemical Co. a decade ago, agreed to buy Arkema SA’s Plexiglas unit for 1.14 billion euros ($1.38 billion), adding a polymer used in cars and Covid-19 protection shields to its repertoire.

The polymethyl methacrylate business is expected to make about 510 million euros of revenue and 122 million euros of earning this year, Colombes, France-based Arkema said Monday. Trinseo announced along with the deal that it may divest its synthetic rubber business.
