Tegna Buyout Opponents Get Meeting With FCC Officials

Federal Communications Commission officials met with an opponent of Standard General LP’s proposed purchase of broadcaster Tegna Inc.

In the Aug. 2 meeting Jon Schleuss, president of The NewsGuild-CWA, and Andrew Jay Schwartzman, the guild’s counsel, asked for more information to determine if Standard General’s funding partners might have control of Tegna TV stations, according to a disclosure filing.

Meeting participants included Schleuss, an attorney for the union, FCC Media Bureau Chief Holly Sauer and David Strickland, who is FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel’s legal advisor for media, according to the disclosure filing.
