Stef Wertheimer, an Israeli industrialist and coexistence advocate who sold the metal-cutting tool company that he founded in a rundown shack to Warren Buffett for $6 billion, has died. He was 98.

Wertheimer passed away in his sleep on Wednesday morning, actress Maya Wertheimer, his granddaughter, wrote on Facebook.

“Stef was one of the builders of the state and a pillar of Israeli industry,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. “In his love for his homeland, he chose to establish factories in the Galilee and the Negev – not only to produce products, but to build a future.”
