RXR purchased stakes in a luxury apartment building and a string of townhomes on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as demand for high-end residential properties persists.

The New York-based real estate firm bought a roughly 45% stake in 265 E. 66th St. and 20 nearby townhome units in a deal that values the rental properties at roughly $435 million, according to people familiar with the matter.

GO Partners still owns a majority stake in the buildings, the people said, asking not to be named discussing the private transaction.
