Nippon Steel Sees No Change in Closure Date to Buy US Steel

Nippon Steel Corp. sees no reason to change the expected closure date for the deal to acquire United States Steel Corp., according to the company’s executive vice president.

Opposition to the takeover offer is “within expectations,” Takahiro Mori said during an earnings press conference Wednesday. Nippon Steel has said previously that it expects to close the deal in the second or third quarter.

Mori said he and others from Nippon Steel traveled to Washington last month to meet US lawmakers to explain the deal, including Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.
