Newsmax Touts Congressional Opposition to Nexstar-Tegna Deal

The Federal Communications Commission said it hasn’t received a letter from 40 Congressional Republicans opposing the proposed merger of broadcasters Nexstar Media Group Inc. and Tegna Inc.

The letter, dated Dec. 17, was published on the website of Newsmax Inc., the conservative media company whose founder, Chris Ruddy, testified against the proposed merger at a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

In a statement, an FCC spokesperson said, “Newsmax’s website is purporting to point to a congressional letter that does not exist.”
