Munksjo Oyj agreed to buy Ahlstrom Corp. for 577.7 million euros ($638.9 million) to create a fibers and filters business with a stronger customer base spanning the automotive, stationery and packaging industries.
Ahlstrom holders will receive Munksjo stock valuing the company at about 12.37 euros a share based on Friday’s closing share price, according to a joint statement Nov. 7. That’s 0.7 percent above where Helsinki-based Ahlstrom ended trading last week. The combination, which the companies described as a merger, will generate 35 million euros in cost savings, they said.
