Mizuho Buys Greenhill to Boost ‘Subscale’ US M&A Presence (1)

Mizuho Financial Group Inc.’s purchase of boutique investment bank Greenhill & Co. will boost the Japanese firm’s “underweight” presence in Americas M&A, according to the head of its US securities unit.

The acquisition of Greenhill for $15 a share delivers Mizuho more than 80 M&A managing directors, Jerry Rizzieri said in an interview on Bloomberg Television. Buying the boutique investment bank was a faster way to scale up its dealmaking presence in the region than adding bankers over time, he said.
