Meloni Open to Eventual Sale of Italy’s Remaining Paschi Stake

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the government is open to selling its remaining Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA, even though there is “no rush” to do so.

“I don’t rule out” the sale of the remaining stake, Meloni said at a press conference in Rome. The government has carried out “serious and careful work” on Monte Paschi that led to a revaluation of the bank’s shares, she said.

The remarks come after Monte Paschi last year acquired 86.3% of Mediobanca SpA following a successful takeover worth more €17 billion ($20 billion).
