David Rubenstein Group in Deal to Buy MLB’s Orioles, Puck Says

Carlyle Group Inc. co-founder David Rubenstein and Ares Management Corp. co-founder Michael Arougheti agreed to buy the Baltimore Orioles baseball team from the Angelos family for $1.73 billion, Puck News reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Rubenstein will be the “control person,” the term Major League Baseball uses for teams’ decision makers, Puck said. Arougheti’s role isn’t clear, the news service said.

Representatives of the two investors didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The Orioles also didn’t respond.

Bloomberg News reported in December that Rubenstein was among several suitors in talks to acquire the MLB franchise. ...
