CN-K.C. Southern Deal Sets Up Canada-to-Mexico Railroad: Map

Kansas City Southern agreed to a $30 billion purchase by Canadian National Railway Co., scrapping a $25 billion deal with Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. after it declined to boost its offer. If the acquisition is approved, Canadian National would be the first freight railroad to operate from Canada, down through the U.S. and on to Mexico. The focus now shifts to the U.S. Surface Transportation Board, which will decide whether CN can use a voting trust to complete the financial portion of the transaction.
