China Delays Approval on Synopsys Acquisition of Ansys, FT Says

China’s antitrust regulator is delaying the approval of chip-design company Synopsys Inc.’s acquisition of Ansys Inc., the Financial Times reported, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The State Administration for Market Regulation’s postponement of its approval of the $35 billion deal comes after US President Donald Trump’s chip export controls exacerbated tensions between Beijing and Washington, the FT reported.

The proposed acquisition had entered the last stage of the approval process and had been expected to be completed by the end of June, the FT said. It didn’t elaborate on when approval was now expected. ...
