ByteDance’s HR Chief Takes Over a Shrunken Gaming Division

ByteDance Ltd.’s human resources chief has taken the helm of the company’s sharply reduced gaming division and will refocus the business on more personal content, avoiding a head-on clash with Tencent Holdings Ltd.

The moves marks a pivot in a unit that once harbored ambitions of taking on Tencent and NetEase Inc. in the world’s biggest mobile gaming market, but has since been forced to unwind many of its properties.
