Zumiez Retail Workers Settle California Reporting Time Pay Suit

Zumiez Inc. agreed to pay $2.8 million to more than 6,150 retail employees who sought “reporting time” pay for scheduled call-in shifts, even when they weren’t required to come into work, according to a new motion for preliminary settlement approval filed in a federal court in California.

The proposed deal allocates roughly $1.66 million to the employees, with each expected to receive about $455. Class counsel is seeking $933,333 in attorneys’ fees and up to $50,000 in litigation expenses.

If approved, the deal would resolve nearly six years of litigation, which included a trip to the Ninth Circuit in 2020. ...
