Zimmer Sales Reps Secure $7.3 Million Deal in Classification Row

A $7.38 million settlement between Zimmer Biomet Holdings Inc. and more than 250 medical device sales representatives who sued over alleged misclassification and unreimbursed business expenses received final approval from a federal judge in California, after cuts to attorneys’ fees.

Judge William Alsup only approved class counsel to receive roughly $1.8 million, instead of the nearly $2.1 million sought, in attorneys’ fees. California courts typically limit attorneys’ fees to 25% of the total settlement and counsel didn’t provide a sufficient justification for departing from this benchmark, Alsup said.
