Zimmer Biomet $3.55 Million Hip Implant Award to Face Appeal (1)

Zimmer Biomet plans to challenge a federal jury’s $3.55 million verdict to an Iowa woman who alleged her Biomet M2a-Magnum hip prosthesis was defectively designed.

Lori Nicholson was awarded $1.05 million in compensatory, and $2.5 million in punitive, damages, according to a Monday judgment in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.

Judge C.J. Williams presided over the trial, which was conducted in-person despite the ongoing pandemic.

Many other users have alleged that hip implants by a variety of makers with all-metal components are prone to loosening and failure when the metal parts rub against one another. ...
