YouTube, Kids Media Data Privacy Suit Likely to Get Cut Down

A US judge on Thursday expressed doubt about the viability of state-law data privacy and consumer protection claims lodged against Google LLC and YouTube channel owners accused of unlawfully collecting minors’ personal information via content geared toward children.

Hearing a defense motion to dismiss the suing parents’ fourth amended complaint, Judge Beth Labson Freeman of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said she found persuasive the companies’ argument that a 2019 Federal Trade Commission injunction from the Federal Trade Commission was already an adequate remedy for the parents’ claims of future harm.
