Yeti Gets Some Damages in Trademark Row Over Branded Merchandise

Yeti Coolers LLC is entitled to a default judgment in its trademark suit against a middleman, who facilitated the sale of Yeti-branded products that were designated for destruction under a contract with a recycler, a federal court said.

Yeti contracted with TerraCycle US LLC to dispose of jackets, backpacks, and tote bags containing its branding. Instead of destroying the merchandise, Yeti said that Oscar Guel facilitated illicit transactions with other entities, and the merchandise was sold by unauthorized entities across the country. Yeti sued Gruel and others for various state and federal trademark violations, but Guel never responded.
